Day 268 – September 25, 2021
Scriptures: Habakkuk 1-3, Philippians 4 Habakkuk Bible Project “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.” (Habakkuk 3:17–19) “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13) Christ gives us the strength we need to press forward in seeking first the kingdom of God. It is Christ’s strength that upholds us to navigate the many circumstances of our life, some of them incredibly difficult and even painful. I don’t know that Paul had in mind making baskets and scoring touchdowns when he tells us of the power of Christ in us. Rather, It might be that he had Habakkuk 3 in mind. “I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he enables me to overcome the trials we are facing and the threat against us” (my paraphrase). Anyways, the connection here is that the circumstances of life can vary wildly. From incredible difficulty to the greatest of joys. And Christ is the gift and strength for us through it all. Jordan
